16V Maserati Conversion
After 12 years of modifying, racing and having lots of fun with the original 8 valve engine in my Daytona, I was ready to make a major change that would dramatically improve the performance of my car. I had done some research and found that twin-cam cylinder head that Chrylser produced with Maserati to build the infamous Chrylser TC cars in 1989 and 1990 were also used by the IMSA GTU Daytonas in 1992. These cylinder heads were casted by Cosworth in England and produced roughly 50 more horsepower than the single cam cylinder heads. In addition the the excellent air flow characteristics of the cylinder head, there were some shortfalls in the OEM components of the TC engine that would have to be improved, namely the intake manifold plenum volume, and the undersized turbocharger. Now that the engine is complete and running, I am extremely pleased with the results. The throttle response is much better than the 8 valve engine and the top end power is unbelievable. I will continue to update both this page with a complete 'build up' and more pictures so please check back!
